Pant Unveiled as LSG Captain, Vows to Give 200% for the Team
Rishabh Pant gets the captain’s role of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2025. Till date, it is KL Rahul, who led his team through three seasons. This time, its turn for Pant to bring that life and added vigor while ensuring to deliver “200%”.
A New Beginning for Pant
LSG is the new inning in Pant’s life. This will be Pant’s first match of the new IPL season 2025 for his new franchise after he missed one full season last year when a severe car accident pulled him out from games in the year 2023. Ever since 2016, Pant is associated with Delhi Capitals and has recently taken up the responsibilities of its captaincy in the year 2021.

Speaking at an official event in Kolkata on January 20, 2025, Pant thanked the LSG management for trusting him. “Thank you to the LSG family for showing faith in me,” he said. “I will give my 200% and that’s my commitment to you. I will try my best to repay the faith you have shown. Looking forward to a new beginning, bringing fresh energy, and having lots of fun.”
KL Rahul’s Exit
KL Rahul was LSG skipper since their very first season. The side, under Rahul performed decently. They, twice in consecutive years, got a chance for playoff but, didn’t win in the past campaign. He skipped the mini auction of last year and once again returned in 2024 mini auction of. While Rahul’s exit has closed down that curtain of an era at LSG, it is Pant’s arrival which has awakened hope and optimism across the means. He is aggressive on field and passionate for leading; it might bring LSG to newer heights.
Pant’s Captaincy Plans
While LSG is a new team for Pant, he has clarified that his leadership style will not change. He believes in trusting players, giving them confidence, and maintaining clear communication.
“If you give confidence and trust to a player, he will do things you cannot even imagine,” said Pant. “That is the ideology we are going to have at LSG. We are going to ensure every single player knows what he has to do and can do that confidently.
One of the most important values Pant wants to see in the team is a “never-say-die” attitude. He has said that, though the performances may fluctuate, the effort and intent should never dip. Pant also stressed that one needs to fight till the last ball.
“Everybody gets tired, but how far are you willing to push yourself? Are you ready to give that extra 20-30% for the team, even when your body says no? That’s the kind of character we want in the team. That’s the culture we are building.”
LSG’s Squad and Strategies
Pant also brings in some new attacking strategies for LSG. An important talking point around the team is that there are too many left-handed batters in the middle order. With Pant, David Miller, and Nicholas Pooran looking to play one after another, some experts have questioned whether it makes the team unbalanced.
But LSG mentor Zaheer Khan feels otherwise. “It could be a strategic advantage,” he said. “If the team does have balance and the right choices available, then not having too many left-handers isn’t an issue. A good batter always makes his presence felt somehow.”

Zaheer spoke about his long-term plans for LSG, saying it was just one small step: naming Pant the captain. According to him, a strong, winning franchise comes out of small, incremental efforts over time.
“Working to develop a ‘Brand LSG’ – this means a brand of cricket style unique to us that our teams are going to identify with; Pant will define and lead on building that.”
IPL 2025 – What’s Next?
The IPL 2025 season will begin on March 21 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It ends on May 25. LSG is the second team to announce a new captain this year. It is right after Punjab Kings named Shreyas Iyer as their skipper.
LSG is looking at this fresh season with high energy that holds excitement within with a vibrant new leadership and the sensational new team who arrive dedicated.
