Mahipal Lomror Prioritizes Playing Time Over Pay in IPL 2025 Auction
“For me, it’s not about the money anymore,” claims Mahipal Lomror, the cricket sensation of India’s future, sitting in a silent room and still contemplating his sojourn till the IPL 2025 auctions. Lomror is approaching the age of 25 now when he used to be completely immersed by this glitz around the bidding, but he does not seem concerned with it right now.

Lomror, with 35 innings under his belt in the IPL, sat for an exclusive chat to share his thoughts on the auction, his career priorities, and the challenges he has faced both at home and in international cricket.
The IPL Turn
For Lomror, the auction was once something that sent one’s nerves scurrying about, a milepost every up-and-coming cricketer always dreamed of crossing. But times are changing. Nowadays, it isn’t about minting the biggest payday. “I would rather be in a team where I play 10 games than garner an extra crore and sit on the bench,” he reveals.
This pragmatic approach stems from his father, Krishan Kumar Lomror, whose wisdom has shaped Mahipal’s outlook. “He’s not concerned about the money; he wants me to focus on where I’ll get opportunities to grow,” Lomror shares.
Lomror was picked by Gujarat Titans for ₹1.70 crore at the IPL 2025 auctions, an appreciation of his consistent outings for both domestic cricket and the IPL. Talking about the bid, he says, “I expected something similar, given how well I’ve been playing. My domestic season was strong, and I made the most of my chances with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last year.”
Building Confidence Against Pace
He has been with Rajasthan Royals since his debut for IPL in 2018 and improved each year. The current record he boasts for the IPL-527 runs at a strike rate of 141.28 -speaks of a batter not only growing but flourishing.
Coming at them over 140 km/h, the left-handed batter found those daunting. “Coming from domestic cricket, we rarely face that kind of pace,” he recalls. “At first, it’s tough to even connect, let alone score off such deliveries.”
But Lomror was not about to give up. Instead, he became innovative. He kept working hard to polish his skill and tempo, from being a spinning-hitting expert to a good all-rounder who can easily play with the tourists’ boom.
“That season was a watershed,” he points out. “RCB used me as a match-winner, and I did deliver for them against the best overseas bowlers during death overs. It broke that myth that I am only an effective player against spin.”
Rajasthan and SMAT
Lomror is currently mentoring Rajasthan in SMAT. There, he is proving himself as a good leader too. At the helm of Lomror, Rajasthan has picked up the beginning of the season with three consecutive wins.
Lomror credits IPL for that learning about leadership nuances. “In the IPL, you observe how senior players communicate and support their teammates. It taught me that leadership is about understanding individual personalities and helping players reach their potential,” he explains.
For Lomror, it was not only strategy; it is about giving his players an atmosphere to thrive. “If a player can make 50 runs, it becomes my responsibility that he should have faith in himself and achieve that,” he insists.
The Psychological War
Lomror was rubbing shoulders with the future stars in the form of Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and Washington Sundar as a member of the 2016 U-19 World Cup squad. Watching his contemporaries grow to stardom while he was stuck as a domestic stalwart was a testing time.
I won’t deny it—it affected me,” admits Lomror candidly. “I kept comparing myself to my batchmates. They were in the national squad, and I was still playing Ranji Trophy. It took a toll on me mentally.
Realizing how futile these comparisons were, Lomror changed his focus. “Instead of worrying about others, I started concentrating on improving my game,” he says. “I realized that everyone has their own timeline. Mine will come, and until then, I’ll keep working hard.”
A Superb Domestic Season
The result of Lomror’s change of heart is there for all to see. He has been simply scintillating this season. In Ranji Trophy, he hit an unbeaten 300 against Uttarakhand, scoring 529 runs in five matches at an average of 105. In SMAT, his strike rate of 176.59 in three innings has only added to his reputation as a dynamic batter.
“I’ve worked extensively on my fitness and the skills required in modern cricket,” he shares. “Now, I approach each opportunity with a simple goal: give my 100% and leave the rest to fate.”
Looking Forward
Though he has done well, Lomror is certainly not one to let success go to his head. He knows how much there is to go from this level before one can reach the national team, but he is ready for the challenge.
“I have come a long way since my debut in the IPL, but I feel there is more to achieve. The key is to keep learning, keep pushing, and stay patient,” he says.
That has to reach also, everything seems important. His leading Rajasthan; playing in the Indian Premier League. He trains, waits for his India call-up.
He always reaches for the same one: to be humble, be humble, to work hard every day in practice, as well as stay in the plan.

He adds, “Never rush the process. Focus on improving your game and trust that opportunities will come to you. The top is never reached overnight- it’s about remaining there and building a legacy.” Mahipal Lomror is not only a cricketer to be watched but the story of survival for the power of perseverance and belief in oneself.
