Indian Premier League is ready to present the 18th edition of it in the year 2025. This time, 10 teams will come out and participate for the title that everyone likes to grab the most. Here is the latest update on mega auction, new retention rules, and players’ penalties
Mega Auction:
It is going to be a mega-auction this time and not mini-auction for 2024. The teams have very fewer retention options. Most of the players will fall back into the auction pool again.
The 2025 auction is held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is on November 24 and 25. This is a tremendous change as Middle East would host this event.
As reported by sources, although the BCCI hasn’t officially declared this yet, communication to the probable dates has been already made with the teams.
Retention:
The Governing Council of Indian Premier League announced a new retention policy for the players for IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
The franchises have further proposed that the mega auction cycle be increased to five years instead of three. Teams can retain up to 6 players from the existing squad, either directly or using the Right to Match card. They also can release all their players and use the Right to match cards during the auction.
This will allow them to develop the talent and keep their core players; hence they will not lose the crème of players.
All these proposals and more issues such as Impact Player rule and purse details of auction would be worked out through a meeting by IPL officials with franchises so the balance can be struck in regards to stability within teams and its fairness.
Purse Amount Raised
It raised the budget to IPL teams with ₹120 crore against ₹100 crores the last year and increased by about 20 per cent. So for retention,
The teams must pay for :
• First Retention-₹ 18 crores
• Second Retention₹ 14 crores
• Third retention: ₹11 crores.
They will now pay for retention of.
• Fourth retainer: ₹ 18 crores.
• Fifth retainer: ₹ 14 crores.
